My Father's War to be Performed in Italy and Germany

FAYETTEVILLE, AR—July 7, 2009—TheatreSquared (T2) Artistic Director Robert Ford announced today that his play, My Father’s War, which had its World Premiere in Fayetteville last year, will be performed in Italy and Germany this summer. The play will be presented in a staged reading in its original English in Berlin July 11-12, where a German cast will be joined by Associate Artistic Director Amy Herzberg reprising her lead role. In Italy, Compagnia Dei Demoni will present a full-scale production, translated to Italian, July 25 in Genoa at the Valle Christi Festival Internazionale before touring the play throughout Italy.

My Father’s War is Robert Ford’s dramatization of the astonishing, true saga of Pfc Arthur Herzberg, whose adventures took him from the D-Day invasion of Normandy through to the Battle of the Bulge and left him the last man standing from his original platoon.Mr. Herzberg is the father of Amy Herzberg, who played both herself and her 19 year-old father in the May 2008 TheatreSquared World Premiere. The original production was made possible by a joint matching gift challenge from Hershey and Denise Garner and Jim and Nancy Blair.

In Germany, the production will be read at Schloss Wartin outside of Berlin on July 11 and at the English Theatre Berlin on July 12. Amy Herzberg will join a cast of actors from throughout Germany to reprise her lead role. The reading is produced by Karen Cifarelli and will be read in its original English.

In Italy, Compagnia Dei Demoni will mount a full-scale production of My Father’s War, presented as La Guerra di Mio Padre, premiering on July 25 at the Valle Christi Festival Internazionale in Genoa in preparation for a tour throughout the country. The script is translated by Kiara Pipino, directed by Mauro Parrinelli and will be performed by a company of actors from throughout Italy. The production is supported in part by the U.S. Consulate in Genoa. Travel for Mr. Ford and Ms. Herzberg is supported in part by the Fulbright College at the University of Arkansas.
